What's really in your bathroom?

Although people are becoming more aware of what we eat and try to substitute as much ORGANIC FOODS in our diets as possible, it is interesting to focus on another part of everyday life, THE BATHROOM.

Many personal care products contain ingredients that are toxic or less than safe to use. The scary part about all this is that we do not even realise it.

Below is a look at the ingredients that are used in common household products.

Shampoo/Conditioners SLS, SLES, Quaternium, Coal Tar, DEA, TEA, Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Formaldehyde, Tallow, Isopropanol.

DEA, BHA, TEA, Alcohols, Methylene Chloride, Toluene, Fluorocarbons. Watch out of products containing aerosols as they can penetrate into the lungs and bloodstream.

Phenylenediamine - Any contact with the eyes may cause blindness Coal tars - Know to be carcinogenic Hyroxyanisole - Affects the female reproductive system.

Fluoride, SLS Saccharin, Propylene Glycol, Triclosan, Artificial flavours and colours.

Alcohol (in excess of 25% is linked to mouth, tongue and throat cancer).

Aluminum (possible links to Alzheimer's disease and cancer) Propylene Glycol, Alcohol, Triclosan.

Wipes and lotions Alcohol, BHA, Propylene Glycol, Talc, SLS, SLES.

Bubble Bath & Body Washes
SLS SLES, DEA, TEA, MEA, Quaternium, OEG, Alcohol, Fragrances.

Triclosan, SOAP Tallow, Lye, some caustic soda in manufacturing (skin irritant and may lead to dermatitis and eczema).

SLS, Propylene Glycol, DEA, TEA, MEA, PEG.

PABA, BHT Hydroxybenzoates, Phenoxyethanol, DMDM hydration (Preservatives) Dibenzoylmethanes (Possible cancer causing when heated).

Acetone, Acetonitrile (forms cyanide when swallowed) Formaldehyde, Toluene, Isopropanol, Pthalates.

Cosmetics & Make-Up
Propylene Glycol, DEA, TEA, 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol (bronopol or BNPD), BHA, Coal Tar, Formaldehyde, Glycerine, Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Lanolin, Mineral Oil, SLS, SLES, Petrolatum, PEG, Bentonite, Kaolin.
Talc is an ingredient frequently used in make-up. It blocks the pores of the skin and is associated with ovarian cancer. Talc is dangerous when inhaled, particularly to children.
